Twin-turbo V6, unwrapped.

The B9 RS5 makes 450 PS from a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 laid out hot-vee, with the turbochargers sitting exactly where the sound ought to be. It is quick and it is quiet, and only one of those was intentional.

Engineering

Heat-wrapped catted downpipes run into a centre resonator, then a pair of valved rear silencers on quad tips. The wrapping is there to keep radiant heat off the engine bay on a car that already runs hot in the vee.
